NCoS Board suspends officers of correctional service after Bobrisky revelation.

The Board, Nigerian Correctional Service, the Nigerian Immigration Service, the Federal Fire Service, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, has suspended senior officers of the service, to allow for further investigation on the various allegations against them.  The Board Secretary, Ja’afaru Ahmed, in a statement said the officers: Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, both Deputy-Controller of corrections, in-charge of Medium and Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Kiri-kiri, Lagos, were suspended following a viral video relating to Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky.  The board has also suspended ASC II Ogbule Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly escorting a convicted inmate out of the custodial centre to a location outside the facility, while the board  equally suspended another senior officer of the service, Iloafonsi Ikechukwu, Deputy-Controller of Corrections (DCC), in-charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje- Abuja, for allegedly receiving monies on behalf of an inmate.

Federal Government Begins New Minimum Wage Payment

Civil servants under the federal government payroll will start receiving the new N70,000 minimum wage payment from yesterday, September 26.  Spokesperson of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, who stated this to journalists in an interview however did not state if the minimum wage would be paid alongside its arrears.  This comes days after the Chairman, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta, confirmed that the government has approved the upward review of consolidated public service salary structure.

Federal Government revises Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure 

The Federal Government has approved the revision of the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure, backdating it to July 2024.  Chairman, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta, who announced this at a press briefing yesterday in Abuja, said his Commission would issue further directives on how pensioners, NYSC members and interns would benefit from the implementation.   He directed any federal public service, whether self-funded or treasury funded, that had not received a circular to this effect, specifically from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, to contact it for further directives.
