The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has disclosed that the Army would invest more in modern technology to strengthen operations across the country, enhance training, and provide improved welfare and accommodation for its personnel.
Speaking at the closing of the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference today in Abuja, Lt. General Oluyede said the force deliberated extensively on innovative strategies to confront and ultimately defeat terrorism, adding that the Army plans to procure additional unmanned aerial systems in the coming year to enhance operations across all theatres.
As part of efforts to address accommodation deficits, the COAS directed the speedy completion of ongoing office and residential projects, with plans to initiate new ones and commissioned a first phase of over 100 units of 400 2 bedrooms of affordable housing schemes for both serving and wounded soldiers at Idu Abuja.
He also noted the recent certification of 22 officers and soldiers as pilots and maintenance engineers for Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones, describing it as a morale booster.
