UNESCO Success Shows Terrorist Can’t Destabilize Nigeria Peace, Security – FG
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said the successful hosting of the UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2022 in Nigeria is a testament to the great efforts of the nation’s security forces in keeping residents of the capital city, and indeed Nigeria, safe.
The Minister who stated this today in Abuja at the closing session of the UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2022, said the success of the program is also a testament to the great efforts of the security forces in keeping residents in the country safe, despite the antics of terrorists who continually prey to destabilise nation’s peace and security.
The minister who said the Federal Government is committed to work with the UNESCO in the establishment of the institute, also called on UNESCO member countries, development partners, multilateral organizations to support the the global funding of MIL in fighting fake news, as contained in the Abuja Declaration.
In his address, the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres who spoke virtually said theme of this years global media information literacy weeks is all about building trust in the growing population.
Calling on member states to develop medium information literacy policies that will promote knowledge and fact that reveals the trust the society needs, in a whole collective efforts is required.
Parts of the resolutions of the 2022 UNESCO Global Media program was to establish its International Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Institute in Nigeria as parts of the framework in using MIL to curb disinformation, fake news and build trust.
