Senator Ali Ndume has warned that President Bola Tinubu could face electoral defeat in 2027 if he does not learn from the mistakes of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who lost his re-election bid in 2015 despite strong party support.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ndume pointed out that Jonathan, backed by 22 governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was ultimately defeated by Muhammadu Buhari of the All-Progressives Congress (APC).
He cautioned that political endorsements alone do not guarantee victory and urged Tinubu to focus on addressing pressing national issues.
Ndume expressed concern over the country’s worsening economic conditions and rising public dissatisfaction, warning that these factors could lead to an electoral upset if not properly managed.
He warned that such moves could alienate the party’s grassroots supporters and foot soldiers, without whom any electoral ambition would be doomed. According to him, relying solely on political endorsements without addressing the needs of the people could be a costly mistake.
The senator advised Tinubu to take swift action in implementing policies that directly improve the lives of Nigerians. He emphasized that the president must prioritize economic recovery and social welfare to regain public trust and secure his re-election.
