A major human trafficking ring has been busted in eastern Libya, where more than 100 migrants were rescued from captivity.
Among them were five women who, like the others, were reportedly tortured and held for ransom.
The Libyan attorney general says the traffickers were part of a network smuggling migrants toward Europe, a route that has become increasingly perilous since the 2011 fall of Muammar Gaddafi.
Five suspects from Libya, Sudan, and Egypt have, however, been arrested in connection with the case.
